Intro

Composite trimming is the process of final machining the molded composite part to its final dimensions by means of cutting, drilling, and milling. Post-molding, flashing remains on the composite which must be removed to meet specification. Additionally, machining operations are typically performed to add cutout features to molded parts. AMC Composites achieves this by employing the following processes:

5 Axis CNC Trimming

AMC Composites utilizes cutting-edge 5-axis CNC trimming technology to deliver precision and versatility for composite parts. This advanced process allows us to machine most complex geometries, intricate designs, and tight tolerances, making it ideal for high-performance applications across industries such as aerospace, automotive, and marine.

Our 5-axis CNC trimming process offers unparalleled flexibility by enabling simultaneous movement along five axes: X, Y, Z, and two rotational axes.

Why Choose Our 5-Axis CNC Trimming Process?
  • Advanced Precision: The 5-axis configuration enables us to machine even the most complex and curved components with incredible accuracy, ensuring each part matches exact specifications.
  • Enhanced Efficiency: With the ability to reach multiple surfaces in a single setup, 5- axis trimming reduces processing time and eliminates the need for re-fixturing, resulting in faster production cycles.
  • Superior Versatility: Ideal for machining intricate or multi-faceted composite components that require high levels of detail and repeatability.
  • Material Protection: Our specialized tooling and advanced techniques ensure composite edges are machined cleanly, avoiding damage such as delamination, cracking, or fraying.

Our 5-Axis CNC trimming option is ideal for complex parts and medium to large scale production runs.

3 Axis CNC Trimming

When the advanced capabilities of our 5-axis CNC are not required, our 3-axis CNC trimming process provides an efficient and cost-effective solution for less complex parts with straightforward machining needs. This method is ideal for components with simple geometries or where precise trimming across three linear axes—X, Y, and Z—meets the project’s requirements. Our 3-axis CNC trimming process ensures precise material removal while also achieving consistent results throughout both prototyping and production.

Whether for machining flat panels, straight edges, or simple cutouts, our 3-axis CNC trimming solutions balance affordability and performance, ensuring your parts are manufactured to specification. This process is an excellent option for projects that prioritize cost-effectiveness without compromising quality.

Manual Trimming

Not every composite part is suitable for automated trimming and final machining. Intricate or complex parts may require a hands-on approach for trimming, particularly when the part is a prototype or produced at low volume. Our manual trimming operations are performed by skilled technicians employs advanced techniques backed by years of experience. Our team utilizes specialized tooling for application dependent materials, ensuring every part is trimmed to specification while preserving the integrity of the composite material.

Please note manual trimming requires looser tolerancing on final component dimensions.
